easy craft ideas for kids
If you're having trouble keeping your kids entertained while they're off school, then why not get them interested in making crafts? You can incorporate painting, colouring or whatever their favourite activity is and they'll have something useful or decorative at the end of the day.

Here are some easy craft ideas for kids using inexpensive items which can be found around the home or at a craft shop.

Pipe cleaners are really great for kids because you can bend them into any shape you like. Animals are always a favourite.

Egg boxes can be transformed too. Cut out the individual egg holder and turn it upside down. You immediately have an insect body. Make slits or use a hole punch to insert pipe cleaner legs or wings. Paint the body with a face or stripes or whatever you like.

Thin card or coloured paper make lovely Chinese lanterns. Simply take the paper or card and fold it in half (long side to long side). Cut slits from the fold to within two or three inches of the other edge. Unfold and stick the short edges together. Cut a thin strip of paper or card and glue inside the top as a handle or hanger. Stick on or paint on coloured stars or whatever suits your theme.

Greetings cards made by their grandchild won't fail to please Granny or Grandpa. This is fun for children of any age but maybe the older kids might want to use their computer rather than doing a drawing.

Cardboard tubes from the inside of kitchen roll or loo paper can be transformed into just about anything from a doll's body to a racing car. Use the tubes as pillars in a garage or turrets for a castle. Other waste cardboard such as cereal boxes can be brought into play as well.

Tissue paper is another readily available material from which the kids can make flowers, butterflies or even papier maché bowls. Using another bowl as a mould, make a paste from flour and water and build up layers with the tissue paper and paste. Don't forget to line the original bowl with cling film and spray it with cooking oil so that the papier maché bowl won't stick.

For the flowers use layers of different coloured tissue paper and a pipe cleaner or piece of wire to draw them together in the middle. Spread out the separate layers into petals and fix to a thin bamboo cane. Hold the cane in the centre of a flower pot and fill the pot with pebbles.

These are just a few easy craft ideas for kids but there are loads more things you can do, particularly with autumn and Halloween approaching.
